1. Tell us about your journey with electronic music — when did you first fall in love with it, and what drew you to the sounds we love at Labyrinth?

My journey with electronic music truly began in 2009 when I went to the Ministry of Sound in London for the first time. I still remember being struck not just by the music, but by how the club was designed — each room felt like its own world. It was like I had stepped into the right place, and the music was speaking without needing words. From there, I began exploring different genres, initially drawn to minimal and dub sounds, and gradually shifting toward house and techno. Music has always been part of my life’s journey. Coming from Yemen, one of the richest traditional music cultures in the Middle East, I was deeply influenced by the rhythmic power of Middle Eastern percussion and drums. That deep connection to rhythm and texture naturally evolved into a passion for electronic music — especially the kind that balances emotion, depth, and energy, much like what Labyrinth curates so beautifully.

2. You’ve been a familiar face at all of our events. What kept you coming back, and what’s your favourite Labyrinth memory so far?

What’s kept me coming back is the feeling that Labyrinth isn't just an event — it’s an experience built on intention, community, and sound that truly resonates. Every detail, from the curation to the setting, feels crafted for people who genuinely listen. There’s a kind of unspoken understanding in the crowd. That’s rare, and it’s what makes Labyrinth feel like home. As for a favourite memory, it’s hard to pick just one. But during the first Lab, there was a moment when everything aligned — the lighting, the track, the crowd’s energy. I remember looking around and seeing everyone moving in sync, completely immersed and vibing together without needing to speak. It hit me: this is exactly where I’m meant to be. Those are the moments that stay with you long after the night ends.

3. You’re already known for Lumina, another project you are involved with. How does it feel to bring that experience into the Labyrinth family?

It feels incredibly rewarding. Lumina has always been about creating thoughtful, intimate experiences rooted in sound and community — values that deeply align with what Labyrinth represents. Bringing that energy into a space like Labyrinth, where those principles are already so present, feels natural and inspiring. This isn’t something new either; there’s always been a sense of mutual support between us — whether through collaborations or simply showing up for each other’s events. That shared foundation makes the connection feel even more genuine. It’s less about merging brands and more about contributing to a community that values depth and connection.

4. You’ve recently started DJing — what inspired you to finally get behind the decks, and what sounds do you love weaving into your sets?

I’ve always been curious about DJing. I remember playing around with Virtual DJ software back in the day, just experimenting and exploring sounds. That early curiosity stuck with me and grew into something deeper. After years of being immersed in music, dancing, and organizing events, I felt a strong urge to step behind the decks and share my own interpretation of the sound and energy I’ve absorbed from the dancefloor. In my sets, I lean toward deep, melodic grooves — a mix of house and minimal techno, often layered with organic or ethnic elements. I’ve also been experimenting with Afro and tribal sounds as I continue to grow and explore new musical directions.

5. How do you see Labyrinth and Lumina complementing each other? Any dream ideas you’d love to bring to life with this new partnership?

Labyrinth and Lumina complement each other through a shared passion for creating immersive, intentional experiences centered around community, culture, and vibe. While Labyrinth offers a deep, unique style and a legacy of thoughtful atmosphere, Lumina brings funky, cheerful energy and a fresh perspective through collaborations with local talent. As for dreams — I'd love to explore cross-brand showcases in unexpected locations, experimental daytime pop-ups, or co-curated experiences that fuse both brands’ strengths while staying rooted in authenticity.

6. What makes the Halifax crowd special to you — and what vibe do you hope to share with them through your music and events?

The Halifax crowd feels uniquely connected. There’s a genuine openness and respect in the way people show up — for the music and for each other. It’s a community that values authenticity and shared experience, which makes every event feel welcoming and meaningful. Through my music and events, I hope to share a vibe that’s both deep and uplifting — something euphoric that encourages people to lose themselves in the rhythm while also feeling grounded and connected. I want to create spaces where everyone feels invited to explore, express, and come together as one.

7. If you could invite any 3 artists (alive or not) to play a secret Labyrinth x Lumina party in an underground warehouse, who’s on the lineup?

That’s a tough one — and while this might not be the most perfectly aligned mix of vibes, here are three artists I’d absolutely love to bring together:

  • Bedouin – Their blend of deep house and global influences creates an atmosphere that’s immersive and transportive.

  • Danny Tenaglia – A true legend whose timeless, character-filled sets bridge generations and bring unmatched energy.

  • Tim Engelhardt – His melodic techno delivers a modern, introspective layer with beautiful tension and flow.

8. What’s one track that never fails to move you, no matter how many times you hear it?

One track that never fails to move me is “Greece 2000” by Three Drives. It’s one of those timeless melodies that hits you every single time. Even the Kareem remix brings a fresh take while preserving that same emotional pull.

9. If your DJ style had a spirit animal, what would it be — and what does it say about your vibe behind the decks?

Since I tend to be a bit of a night owl myself, I’d say the owl is my DJ spirit animal — chill, observant, and patient. I like to vibe with the crowd, take my time, and let the set unfold naturally with real depth and feeling.

10. Are you a dog person or a cat person — and if you could bring a pet to a Labyrinth party, who’s coming with you?

I’m both a dog and a cat person, though I don’t have pets at the moment. But if I could bring one to a Labyrinth party, it’d be a parrot — loud, cheeky, and always ready to dance. A feathered hype buddy on the dancefloor!

11. Finally, any message you’d like to share with the Labyrinth family as you step into this new chapter with us?

I’m truly grateful to be stepping into this new chapter with the Labyrinth family. This community has always felt like home — a space where music, intention, and connection come together in a meaningful way. I’m excited to contribute, grow, and keep building something special alongside all of you.
